Dear BAU Community,
Our summer session has officially come to an end, and I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been an exciting and transformative few weeks. From off-campus excursions that brought our community closer together to important changes taking shape behind the scenes, this summer at Bay Atlantic University has been filled with momentum, growth, and anticipation for what’s ahead.
What We’ve Been Up To This July:
Annual Fourth of July BBQ:
The month began with one of Bay Atlantic University’s most cherished traditions: our Annual Fourth of July BBQ. This celebration brought together students, faculty, and staff for an afternoon filled with food, music, and meaningful connection. As a university located in the heart of our nation’s capital, Independence Day is more than just a festive occasion. It reflects the shared values of community, diversity, and opportunity that define BAU.
Staff Summer Training
Over the past four weeks, our Bay Atlantic University staff have participated in a series of professional development sessions focused on strengthening communication and student support. Our engagement and admissions teams dedicated time to enhancing their listening skills, refining their responses, and learning how to better serve our students with empathy and clarity.
Mentora College Summer Youth Program
We wrapped up our annual Mentora College Summer Youth Program, where students aged 11 to 17 spent three enriching weeks improving their English, exploring D.C., and forming lasting friendships. From classroom learning to cultural field trips, the program nurtures the next generation of global leaders, building confidence, curiosity, and cross-cultural understanding from a young age.
Thrills, Treats, and Togetherness at Kings Dominion:
Our students enjoyed an exciting trip to Kings Dominion as part of this summer’s student activities. From roller coasters to candy shops, it was a memorable opportunity to relax, connect with peers, and take a well-deserved break from their studies. I would like to thank our Student Services team for planning such a thoughtful experience and for their continued commitment to supporting student engagement both on and off campus.
Cultural Partnerships and Community Engagement
Bay Atlantic University was honored to serve as a main sponsor of the 9th International Colombian Festival in Washington, D.C., reflecting our commitment to cultural celebration and community connection. We were also proud to engage with the Thai community during this month’s Thai Festival, celebrating shared traditions and supporting the aspirations of individuals and families living and learning in the D.C. area.
Innovation and Cybersecurity Hubs Underway
The final phase of construction is now underway for the Center for Innovation & Global Entrepreneurship and the Cyber Edge Innovation Hub. These new spaces will provide students with the tools, resources, and community needed to explore entrepreneurship and cybersecurity. Whether launching a startup or advancing in a tech career, students will have the support to turn ideas into impact. I look forward to sharing more soon.
Looking Ahead
As we move into August, I’m excited to continue sharing experiences that bring our community together both in and out of the classroom. From our Water Rafting Adventure to New Student Orientation and University Day, the month ahead is filled with opportunities to connect, engage, and celebrate all that makes Bay Atlantic University unique. I look forward to welcoming new faces, strengthening our community, and making more meaningful memories together.
Warm regards,
Dr. Sinem Vatanartiran
President, Bay Atlantic University
