Bay Atlantic University (BAU) recently held two health-focused events designed to strengthen emergency readiness and promote public service among students and staff.
On April 18, the university partnered with the American Red Cross to host an on-campus blood drive. Held at The Bay, the event invited members of the BAU community to contribute to a critical national need amid ongoing blood supply shortages. Participants donated blood over a five-hour period, with many emphasizing the importance of individual contributions to collective health.
The drive welcomed both first-time and returning donors, and organizers noted strong engagement from students, faculty, and staff. Volunteers assisted with registration and post-donation care, helping ensure a smooth and supportive experience for all attendees.
“Participating in the blood drive was a simple but powerful way to give back,” said Furkan S., an international student at BAU. “It reminded us that even small actions can have a real impact on someone’s life.”
Later in the week, on April 21, BAU and Mentora College welcomed representatives from Respond Rescue for a comprehensive CPR and First Aid training session. The program covered adult and pediatric CPR, AED usage, Narcan administration, and basic first aid skills. Participants practiced emergency procedures through hands-on simulations, with a focus on practical application and quick, confident response.
The training also emphasized inclusivity, using diverse teaching tools that reflected the backgrounds of BAU’s international student body. At the end of the session, participants earned CPR and First Aid certifications, equipping them with life-saving skills recognized under U.S. emergency standards.
“The CPR training made me feel more prepared and confident to handle real emergencies,” said Tabita, a BAU staff member. “Learning these skills firsthand was an important step toward being ready to help others when it truly counts.”
Both events demonstrated Bay Atlantic University’s commitment to fostering a safe, responsive, and socially responsible campus environment. Through active participation and real-world training, BAU continues to build a stronger, more resilient community.
