Washington, D.C., August 15, 2025 – Bay Atlantic University (BAU) welcomed new students on August 12 with an energizing Fall Orientation Day designed to help them step confidently into the new academic year.
Hosted by the Student Services Department, the full-day event brought together students, faculty, staff, and peer mentors in an atmosphere of excitement and possibility. Students connected through group activities, campus tours, and hands-on sessions that introduced them to essential university services, from academic advising to student life resources. The day also featured opportunities to learn about clubs, support programs, and wellness initiatives that will play a role in their success at BAU.
The morning began with inspiring remarks from academic leaders, who emphasized the importance of engagement, self-advocacy, and seeking out resources when needed. “Orientation is to make sure our students know they have a support system from day one,” said Dr. Michelle Landa, Chief Academic Officer. “We want them to feel confident stepping into their courses, knowing they’re part of a community that cares about their success.”
Throughout the day, the focus remained on building connections. Icebreakers, social breaks, and informal conversations created a warm and inclusive atmosphere where students could start forming meaningful relationships. Santiago, a new student from Colombia, shared, “Hearing from the faculty directly was reassuring. I feel like they genuinely want us to do well,” capturing the sense of support that many felt during the event.
The Student Government Association also played an important role in fostering this sense of belonging. SGA President Yabsira Kuraz Mekonnen encouraged students to take advantage of every opportunity to get involved, noting that leadership, service, and collaboration are key parts of the BAU experience.
By the close of the day, students left not only with their schedules and resources in place, but also with a sense of excitement for the semester ahead. “More than schedules and procedures, Orientation fosters a true sense of belonging,” said one of the event organizers. The warmth and energy of the day set the tone for an inclusive, supportive semester where every student can thrive.
