Gender Equality and Empowerment
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states that:
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
This equality and empowerment expands to our community in a variety of ways. Female employment at Bay Atlantic University is approximately 75%, including our female university president. Additionally, the percentage of our female student body is growing everyday. BAU also has an The Women’s Advisory Committee, which is made of up staff, faculty, and a student representatives. This group advises the Director of Diversity and Inclusion on important issues of special interest to women within the BAU community. This helps create unique female focused programming, events, policy, and more.
Bay Atlantic University prohibits any form of sexual misconduct (i.e., sexual harassment). Additionally, there is no discrimination based on gender identity, pregnancy or parenting status, sexual orientation, etc. These actions go against our University’s beliefs and practices. We want every students, staff and/or faculty member to feel safe and welcomed here.
Additionally, Bay Atlantic University protects and supports students’ sexual and gender identity and expressions.
