BAU Announcing New STEM Program: Master of Science in Data Science and Public Policy

Bay Atlantic University (BAU) is proud to announce the official approval of its new Master of Science in Data Science and Public Policy program, effective immediately. Enrollment for the program will begin as early as Summer 2025. This innovative program is STEM-designated, offering students a unique opportunity to combine cutting-edge data science skills with the strategic insights required for effective public policy.

The Master of Science in Data Science and Public Policy program is  a groundbreaking collaboration between the Department of Political Science and the Department of Information Sciences. By merging the power of data science with a deep understanding of public policy, this program will equip students with the knowledge and skills to address and influence some of the most pressing challenges facing society today.

“We are proud to offer our students a program that meets the growing demand for data-driven public policy professionals while also providing the STEM-focused skills that are increasingly valued across industries.,” said Dr. Michelle Landa, Chief Academic Officer. “This program will prepare students to navigate complex policy issues while leveraging the latest advancements in data science.”

The STEM-designated program will provide students with both a deep understanding of data science techniques and a solid foundation in policy analysis. Students will engage in hands-on projects and real-world problem-solving, developing expertise to analyze large datasets and apply those insights to public policy challenges in areas such as healthcare, climate change, social justice, and economic development.

Dr. Sean Cox, Chair of the Department of Political Science, emphasized the program’s interdisciplinary nature: “The combination of political science and data science provides our students with a truly unique skill set. We are committed to preparing students to use technology and data to make informed, impactful decisions in the public sector.”
