Coat of Arms
A symbol should carry a conviction, not just a design. Bay Atlantic University’s Coat of Arms carries one: rooted in the nation’s capital, BAU brings knowledge to the world in a spirit of peace and respect for all — with the belief that the serious pursuit of education breaks down barriers and builds goodwill among nations.
Every element of the emblem gives that belief a form.
- The open book — our commitment to continuously improving the quality of education.
- The globe — our global reach, diversity, and inclusiveness.
- The blue hatching — the Potomac River, the waters that anchor us to Washington, D.C.
- The rising sun — hope, and the new knowledge that rises from BAU.
- The cherry branches — our pursuit of harmony and peace among nations.
- The motto, “Peace through Education” (Latin: Concordia Per Eruditionem) — the meaning that ties the whole symbol together.
Taken together, the emblem states plainly what the university sets out to do: teach seriously, reach widely, and let education do the work that closes distances between people. The book, the globe, the river, the rising sun, and the cherry branches are not decoration. They are a promise — that from Washington, D.C., BAU carries radiant knowledge outward, and that goodwill among nations follows where learning leads.
