What Is Data Science?

Let’s begin by defining what data science is. As a term, data science encompasses many subfields, such as statistics, machine learning, data analysis, computer science, and many others. Therefore, data science can be defined to be the field of study that combines various skills in programming, mathematics, statistics, and domain knowledge in order to extract information from data.

Data science professionals also apply various algorithms to pictures, videos, audio, or texts to produce systems that generate insight and then use it to improve the business.

Data Science Jobs

With the huge amount of data that is produced daily, a lot of work is required in order to gather, analyze, and then use that data to make informed business decisions. Because of this, there are various data science positions available. Each one handles the data in different ways, and we will explain each one in the following paragraphs.

Data scientist

A data scientist is a professional whose focus is on applying the knowledge gathered from the data to find useful patterns. As a data scientist, your responsibilities include taking the information gathered from data analysts one step further and applying it to systems in order to identify any weaknesses, anomalies, or repetitive patterns that could benefit the company in marketing or decision-making.

Data scientist job outlook

The demand for data scientists continues to be enormous, and many sources suggest that this isn’t going to change any time soon. The Grand View Research predicted that the global data science platform is expected to expand 26.9% from 2020 to 2027. With this increase in the market, an increase in data science jobs is inevitable as well. So, the U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics has predicted that between 2019 and 2029, a 15% rise in the data science industry should be expected.
