To control your productivity over time, you should take more breaks. After every 90 minutes of focused work, your mind naturally yearns for a break. Your body will signal that you need a break even if you are not using a timer. Some signs can be becoming sleepy, restless, hungry, or losing concentration. You know it’s time for a break when you start to feel this way. 

Taking breaks is vital when performing tasks requiring intense concentration because such focus is tiring. Taking a break to do something completely different, like playing with your dog, can help your mind rest. Nonetheless,  deadlines should be met, so it is essential to use these breaks wisely. 

Use your breaks wisely

You can follow these time management activities for college students that will maximize your free time:

  • Disconnect from the project you were working on earlier. Try to take a mental break from the activity by getting up from your desk or another work area.
  • When you can, go outside. Natural light and fresh air are productivity and energy boosters.
  • Allow your eyes to rest. Use the 20-20-20 exercise to balance out screen or reading time. Look at something at least 20 feet away from you for at least 20 seconds every 20 minutes or so.
