Mentora Placement Exam Specifications
Specifications for the Mentora College Placement Exam (for Intensive English Courses)
Before starting courses in Mentora College, the students are required to sit for the Mentora College Placement Test in order to be placed into their appropriate level classes. The Placement Test evaluates each student’s grammar, vocabulary, reading, and writing skills. The time allotted for the test is 120 minutes. The exam results are announced in 2 day-time via email.
The levels of the Mentora College program are described in accordance with the Common European Framework Reference (CEFR) scale and our assignments, assessments, texts, and materials align with themes and subject matters appropriate for each level.
Retaking the placement test: In order to retake the placement test, students must first get the Academic or School Director’s approval and pay the Placement Test Fee. The decision to allow a student to retake the test will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

About the Exam | Venue: Exam room • One 2 hour-session without any breaks • Students are taken to the exam room after their registration and ID check at the Front Desk • Smart devices, mobile phones are collected • Attendance sheet is signed and exam instructions are announced before the exam starts |
Placement Exam Testing Procedures | Once registration process is completed, students are required to take the placement exam that day.
During the exam; • Proctors deliver the exam packs and the Answer Sheets onto which the students will transfer their answers. • Proctors do not guide, help or make any comments about the questions/answers. • Proctors write the start and end time on the board. • All the exam documents (question booklets, answer sheets, incident reports, and signature lists) are submitted to the Academic Director when the exam is over by the proctor. |
Scoring | On the Placement Test “1” point will be deduced from their overall score for every 4 wrong answers. That means, if a student has 60 questions right 15 questions wrong, their actual score is calculated as follow:
1. The number wrong divided by 4 (15/4=3.75) 2. Subtract that number from the total correct (60- 3.75 = 56.25) 3. This number, 56.25 is the students score which means they would be in the B2 level
And the writing section is mandatory.
